Poster 2/10: Porsche’s maiden victory in the spotlight to celebrate centenary CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa
  • Ten collector’s edition posters depict past and present at the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa
  • Official poster receives positive reception from fans
  • Latest version puts Porsche’s hard-fought maiden victory in the spotlight

SRO Motorsports Group hit the headlines by announcing that the official poster for the centenary CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa (26–30 June) would be available as a set of 10 collector's editions. The reaction from fans could not have been more positive, particularly on social media, with the launch of new posters set to be a running theme over the coming weeks.

Following the official version, which featured a pair of very different Mercedes-AMGs climbing towards Raidillon, it is Porsche that takes the spotlight for the first variation designed by Guillaume Lopez.

The contrast in colour is striking: on the right, the neon-liveried Porsche 911 GT3 R that Rutronik Racing will field at the centenary CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa; on the left, the comparatively sombre grey and black Porsche 911 that won the 1967 edition in the hands of “Pedro” and Jean-Pierre Gaban.

“Pedro” was the pseudonym used by Noël Van Assche and, with Gaban, he is one of the individuals who helped to write the great history of the 24 Hours. The 1967 edition was the race’s 19th running and saw Porsche secure the first of its eight victories at the Ardennes classic. But, as is so often the case at Spa, it did not come easily... “We were leading from mid-race, but we almost lost everything at the end,” recalled Gaban during the centenary launch event, held at Stavelot Abbey in February. “It rained a lot that year. The windscreen wiper motor burned out and replacing it would have cost us too much time, so we had to be… creative. We hooked up some electrical cables and, by pulling on them, I could make the wiper blades move. With the speeds we were doing, the water didn’t collect on the windscreen and I was able to maintain a good pace. “But, to avoid being forced to repair it by the officials, I had to be cunning. I activated the wipers – by hand – by pulling the electric cable when I passed race management. The rules stipulated that the wipers had to work, but our opponents from Alfa Romeo had the good grace not to lodge a protest – and we won!”

Like the official poster and the eight versions that will follow, the collector's edition Porsche poster will be available to purchase in limited numbers from the merchandising stands at this year’s CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa. Now, excitement is already building for the reveal of the third instalment in the series.
